We flew into Reno and drove to Lake Tahoe for the first 2 days. It was such a beautiful place. Sunny and cool, clear blue waters, and lots of outdoor activities.
Our hotel was right across from the Heavenly Ski Resort.
The water was so unbelievably clear! A far cry from the murkey brown waters of Lake Brownwood!
I spotted a rare wild animal while walking on a trail...scary!
We heard the sunset from the beach by our hotel was spectacular, so we made sure to be there for it.
The next day we decided to rent bikes and ride around the city. (Thanks for the recommendation, Jenny) It was a great decision and we had a blast! The town is so bike friendly with lots of bike trails and paths that make you feel safe riding on the street.
We took a little break out on a pier to have a snack and a rest.
I was continually amazed at how clear the water was!
We woke up the next day and got in the car to head to San Francisco. We had to stop at an In and Out Burger for lunch. Yummy!
Napa Valley is between Tahoe and San Fran so we stopped by to check out some wineries. We toured the Mumm Vineyards which specialize in sparkling wine. Thanks for the recommendation, Vaughanie!
After Mumm, we just looked around a few other wineries along the way. They had gorgeous architecture and flowers. Rocky enjoyed frolicking through the Robert Mondavi vineyards!
We made it to San Francisco and woke up the next day rested and ready for a day of hitting all the hot tourist spots. The sea lions at pier 29 were one of our first stops.

The foodie in me loved learning how champagne is made and the tasting samples were really good too!

This night ended early because we were so beat. The 2 hour time difference still hadn't set in so we ate early and went to bed early! The next morning we had scheduled a tour of the Muir Woods. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on our way there.

Then we walked through China Town. The entrance was right next to our hotel so we put it off until last...glad we did, I was pretty unimpressed.
On our final day in San Fran, we did one of my favorite things- walking through the Ferry Building Farmer's Market!
I loved it! The local vendors, farm stands with food they actually grew instead of just bought off a truck, and lots of people watching.

After the woods, our tour took us to the town of Sausalito. It was a cute little touristy town with shops and restaurants. We had lunch right by the water. It was so pretty!
We took the ferry boat back to San Francisco.
I got a little artsy with my photography for a sec there...you know, the flag waving with the bridge in the background. Come on!

This was the closest we got to Alcatraz. Creepy old prisons just aren't my cup 'o tea...
The next day started with some shopping in Union Square. We both enjoyed playing with IPads in the flagship Apple store. It was like a pilgrimmage for Rocky!

We actually never rode on a trolley but I did get a classic pic posed on one!

Our favorite thing was this bacon, egg and tomato sandwich. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
All in all, it was a fabulous vacation! The best part was just getting away and relaxing with my precious husband. Having kids and a stressful job oftentimes pushes your relationship as husband and wife to the back burner. I would highly recommend to all my mommy friends out there to get away, even if it's just for a weekend, and have some fun with your hubby!

Amy, it makes me so happy to hear what a great time the two of you had together! What a wonderful and humorous ( strange wild animal : ) ) documentation of a trip that Zack and I, as I have said before, have been DROOLING over! You looked so cute too, everything from the red jacket, to the black and white scarf! Oh and the famer's market looked like so much fun, the flowers were beautiful!
