Well, Paisano is a christian family camp in the Davis Mountains, between Marfa and Alpine, Texas that takes place every year in the month of July. I have been going my whole life and only a trip to Brazil, a summer job in college, and a newborn baby have kept me away. So, I figured out that this was my 27th year...and it was one of the best! So, I am going to do my best to sum up this wonderful week the best way I can. Paisano is...first and foremost about spending time with family. We celebrated Papa's 60th birthday, but more on that later. Paisano is...a long car drive. Brinley watched her first iphone video on the way down. 9 hours in the car deserved some Veggie Tales time! Paisano is...2 worship services a day with some good old fashioned hymn singing. Brinley enjoyed coming in the tabernacle with us for the singing, then went to the nursery to play during the sermon. Paisano is...getting some good quality time with Daddy.Paisano is...climbing Fat Man's Misery! It's a rock pile that is just what it says it is...a misery for a fat man with all it's cracks and crevices and the climbing. A view from the top! This is the actual crack that gave the rock pile it's name. Not only is it a fat man,s misery, it's also a claustrophobic gal's misery. I sat this one out!We waved to Brinley and Papa at the bottom. She's still a little young for fat mans, but she did reach an important milestone in a Paisano kid's life- climbing the small rock pile by the bell.
Paisano is...skinned knees and dirty feet. *see above :0)Paisano is... baths in the shower. The accomodations are far from 4 star, but you make it work! Paisano is... family hikes to enjoy God's beautiful creation. Paisano is... snowcones, Paisano Pie (bread with peanut butter and syrup), and pinto beans at EVERY meal besides breakfast!Paisano is...a kid's paradise.Whether it be swinging on a railing, or cooking rock soup, there is dirty messy fun around every corner. Paisano is...taking yearly pictures by the bell. 20092010 2011 Paisano is...free time. Some use this time to climb Paisano peak (David and Rocky) or take a nap (Amy and Brinley) A little victory air guitar at the top. Another peak conquered by Uncle David. Paisano is... games on the porch with Daddy. With no internet or cell phone service, you gotta find ways to entertain yourself the old school way! Uno or Skipbo, anyone? Paisano is...reconnecting with friends you have known your entire life, and watching your kids play and make memories too! And, most obviously, Paisano is...about taking pictures to capture every memory so you can look back and remember the blessing that it is.
"Above all, love one another deeply, for love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gifts he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 4:8-11
