Paisano 2013

This July, we once again travelled to the Big Bend to attend Paisano Baptist Encampment.  We did all the things we have always done for the past 30 years like rock climbing,

 

attending worship as a family,

 

playing with friends,

eating our meals in the cook shed,

 

and taking family photos by the bell...

  but this year was very different.  We are now the proud owners of our very own cabin!

We decided to break away from using Dad and Barbara's cabin and get our very own.  I know it doesn't look like much, but it is pretty much par for the course at Paisano.  Here are some pics of the inside.

It has an awesome shade tree to the side with space for chairs and a table.  We spent the majority of our days out there reading, coloring, resting, and playing games.

 

Cason spent time out there too but usually trapped in his wagon.  Too many rocks, leaves, sticks, and bugs to eat on the ground.  Needless to say, Paisano isn't the best place for crawlers but we made it work!

He was happy!

This year we decided to stay in the cabin just the way it is without making any updates or repairs so we could decide what we want to do.  Everything is in working order, it's just not quite as comfortable as we hope it will eventually be.  We are planning to close in the porch to give us a little more space and get some different furniture.  We were all on bunk beds this year with Rocky and I on the top bunks.  Lets just say we will be making a trundle bed purchase before next year!  It was fun for the kids to lay on the top bunks with us, though!

Brinley really enjoyed going to her preschool class every morning while brother took his morning nap and we attended the morning church service.

Brother went to the nursery while we were at morning service and he loved it.  They loved him too.

During the day we mostly spent our time around the cabin because one or both of our kids were sleeping!  One day we found all 4 of ourselves awake with free time, so we went to the rec area to play some good old fashioned tetherball and watch the volleyball tournaments that were going on.

And Brin took some breaks from the action in there with him.

One afternoon, Papa and Brinley decided to go on a Bug Hunt which quickly turned into a Rock Hunt.

She found lots of rocks but couldn't catch the bugs!

Our evenings were late after church at 8:00 so usually we went straight to bed at the cabin.  The exception was made for the famous Mitchell party which always delivers with yummy snacks and a sing along!  We took the kids for a bit but they both got a major case of the tired sillies

so Rocky took them home before the sing along.

He was happy to skip that part but I wish I had kept Brinley there with me.  She would have loved it!

We had a fabulous time yet again.  It is such a blessing to watch my kiddos growing up at Paisano just the way I did: learning to love family, nature, new and old friends, and most importantly, Jesus Christ!
